Oil Painting 101: Live Pop Art

Learn the basics to paint your favorite items from life with Bethany Arts Community studio artist, Peter Leeds. Shadowing, toning, color relationships, cool and warm tones; and the fun vibrations of colors when placed against each other. Learn to build forms from shapes. Learn to draw through a series of measurements. Grab your favorite item from home and let’s create a fun and inspiring painting from it.

Peter Leeds will teach you how to use the right tools for the right job. Understand the painting process, drawing techniques, and working on the underpainting and how it effects the end result. Learn to mix paint and find the right tone on your palette for success. Learn about textures and surfaces and what magical effects happen when executing the right combinations.

Fee:  $150

  1. Composition
  2. Technique and perspective
  3. Tones and value
  4. Color study
  5. Glazes and varnishes
  6. Finish up the painting

About your Instructor:
Peter Leeds is a professional artist for over twenty years. Based out of NYC and now in Westchester NY, he has guided students at Columbia University, Brooklyn College, and at the New School and worked with students internationally. He has worked in landscape painting in Ireland and sculpture oversees in Italy through the schools of SUNY Cortland and New York Academy of Art. He is mostly known for his mural work in New York city and throughout Westchester.
