Bethany Arts Community welcomes HERE Arts Center for a theater design residency in September 2018.
HERE stands at the forefront of the city’s presenters of daring new hybrid art. In its 25 years, HERE has developed such acclaimed works as Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues, and has garnered 16 OBIE awards, a long list of of other theater awards and a Pulitzer Prize nomination! While at BAC, they’ll be working on a piece called “ThisTree” which will have its world premiere in January at the PROTOTYPE Opera-Theater Festival.

SEPT 8, 1:30PM FREE Masters Presentation: What is Hybrid Theater?
HERE Arts Center’s founder and Artistic Director Kristin Marting discusses what “Hybrid Theater” means, what sets it apart from more commonly known theater forms and the process of developing a hybrid theater work such as the piece they’ll be working on at Bethany ThisTree. Immediately following, the audience will have an opportunity to observe an open rehearsal of ThisTree in Bethany’s performance space.
Marting has developed 29 stage works and has directed 19 works across the globe. She was recently named a nytheatre.com Person of the Decade for outstanding contribution, a Woman to Watch by ArtTable and honored with a BAX10 Award. Here works have been reviewed in all major NY papers.
SEPT 8, 2:30PM FREE Open Rehearsal: ThisTree
At the conclusion of HERE’s theater design residency at BAC, a unique opportunity in Westchester to see a work before its world premiere this January. Attend an open rehearsal of ThisTree.Featuring Cellist/singer Leah Coloff, this new work weaves autobiographical storytelling, 8 mm home movies, and Coloff’s signature blend of blues, rock and non-traditional cello playing to investigate the vantage point of being the last branch on the family tree.
