The fine art of metal embossing or metal relief, known as repouss. or repujado, is the working of metal to give volume and depth to a decorative design engraved on metal, and is always crafted by hand.

You’ll be embossing on your choice of aluminum or copper. Class project will be wrap-mounted as a 5″x5″ tile; or if you prefer, your finished artwork will look great in your own traditional frame or shadow box.

Several Day of the Dead patterns and ideas will be provided, including Sugar Skull cats & dogs! All incorporating your favorite Day of the Dead symbols: hearts, jewels, stars, swirls, flowers, leaf shapes, keyhole, dots, sun rays, etc. Alternately, a variety of Mask styles available will include harlequin, carnival and traditional masquerade. Either design selection is assured exquisite results, so improvisation is encouraged!

We’ll discuss basic design principles, learn how to dry-adhere to a wooden frame and
practice many metal embossing techniques using just a few simple hand tools.
This class project is a great way to learn, expand upon and practice your metal embossing
skills. Let’s explore the embossabilities.

All skill levels are welcome!

Feel free to bring your dinner.
