My name is Max Lazarowitz and I am in 9th grade at Ossining High School. I have lived in this town my entire life and I am committed to helping the Ossining community through creative projects. During the pandemic, I proposed to the town to build a mini golf course to spread awareness about climate change. Not only is mini golf one of my favorite activities, but it is fun and affordable for people of all ages.

After submitting a letter and drawings to the town, I was asked to participate in the Ossining Earth Day Festival and worked with a carpenter to build 2 prototype holes. The interest was overwhelming and after having it there twice (2022 and 2023), Bethany Arts Community (BAC) and our Town Supervisor and Mayor reached out to me to discuss next steps. This led to a connection with an organization called Submerse NY whose mission is to fund three local art projects that focus on the rising concern of flooding in the Hudson Valley. After a few meetings with everyone and sharing my plans and vision for this course, I was the recipient of a grant from Submerse to make this happen. I am so excited for this opportunity!

Each hole will be designed around the topic of climate change and the impact of increased flooding on our area. While I am bringing this project to Ossining, I am hoping that everyone in our community and schools (kids and adults) will help me create it!  My goal is to use as many repurposed and recycled materials to build the course. I will be leading workshops through Bethany Arts Community so people of all ages can join me in creating different aspects of each hole. Workshops will include brainstorming, painting, and constructing!
