“An Imperial Message” work-in-progress – Presented by New Rising Sun Dance Project (FREE EVENT)
REGISTERThe piece is based on a short story by Franz Kafka, idea conceived by New Rising Sun Dance Project director Tomiko Magario. This performance employs three actors and a dancer to further develop this multidisciplinary work and will be followed by a Q & A with the artists. This performance is free to the public.
An Imperial Message
In its final form, the work will employ actors, a dancer, musicians, a dramaturg, a choreographer, and a composer. Conceived by New Rising Sun Dance Project director Tomiko Magario, the creation of this piece will be approached through various stages of development. The first stage was performed in October 2021 at the Ossining Public Library with Ted Daniel-Jazz Trumpeter/Composer and Tomiko Magario-Dancer/Choreographer. The goal of this first stage was to lay down a sketch of the idea, employing only two bodies on stage, and allowing the creators to envision the final larger version of the work.
Currently, Tomiko is working on the second stage of the project: creating dance solos, and further exploring Kafka’s text through the actor’s workshop.
