You’ll be shown how to prepare your board, transfer a simple design, carve your image, ink your board, position your paper, and use a baren (or run it through the press) to create your woodcut print. Printmaking supplies & non-toxic water-based inks will be provided.

Bring your ideas, imagination and/or simple sketches if you’d like.

Instructor Bio:

I have been an artist all of my life yet this phase of my artistic process, right now, is the most productive, stimulating and satisfying that it has ever been. I receive my art from an inner, meditative space being given the ideas and concepts that develop in order to teach me about myself and the world around me. I am glad at this stage to be able to share my knowledge and experience, while learning from others’ responses to the work.

In 2015, I established my New Rochelle-based business, Heart Within the Art, LLC, which features Afrocentric Fine Art Originals including 2D & 3D mixed media collage/assemblage, digital photo collage with painting, woodcut collage on Japanese paper, hand-carved wood sculpture, paintings (watercolor, acrylic & oil) and pencil drawings.

Since 2021, a new product line of “Jumping Brooms” for commemorating weddings in the African, and African American Tradition was begun. Self-publishing consultations, book illustration, type design/layout, and other related art products and services are offered, as well.
