Rose: You Are Who You Eat is a work in progress installation of films made at Bethany Arts Community following the gender journey of artist John Jarboe.

Viewers will walk through the domestic spaces of Bethany Arts Community discovering various digital tellings of the myth of John and Rose. Over ten films found in refrigerators, underbeds, and on ceilings, viewers will explore the inner workings of a “gender cannibal” and be asked to reflect on their own journey with gender.

After the showing Jarboe will sit with viewers, share a hot chocolate, and discuss what the piece provoked. Often with Rose this involves hearing stories, fielding questions about process and content, and making a space especially for gender expansive folx to find some shared space. Some of the questions Jarboe will be asking the viewers is: Could you follow the stories?  Did you want to stay and watch all the films? How did this space make you think about your own origin story and relationship to gender?

Post-chat for ages 13 and up
