Intermediate Drawing Class at Bethany Arts Community

This 6 week workshop covers the fundamentals of drawing and provides an opportunity for intermediate and advance drawers to continue developing their practice. We will be using photographs, mirrors, and still life as context and working with paper, pencil, charcoals and pastels. Drawing the Portrait

Drawing the Portrait

During this 8-week workshop series participants will learn the process of portraiture and drawing the figure taught by self-portrait artist and teaching artist Lindsey Francis. Not just self-portraits but friends, family and strangers can all be sources of inspiration. Students will be introduced to the elements and principals of art and design, and various drawing techniques as they relate to portraiture. We will be using materials like pencil, charcoal, pastel and newsprint. We will study the anatomy of the face and upper torso and look for inspiration from artists such as Rembrandt,Amy Sherald, Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo and many others. We will discuss and learn how to tell a story about a figure and convey meaning through our works. Beginner, intermediate and advance drawers are all welcome.

About the Instructor
Lindsey Francis graduated from Penn State University with a BFA and post bac in ceramics and a minor in psychology. From 2014 to 2015 she was the Valentine & Clark Westchester Community Foundation Emerging Artist at the Clay Art Center. Currently, Lindsey has her studio at her home in Ossining, NY where she is a member of the arts council and frequently shows her work at the local shops and restaurants. In addition to her ongoing studio work she is the Program Manager for the national Creative Aging organization Lifetime Arts, a community art show curator, mural artist, and an established Teaching Artist conducting more than 350 classes in the past five years.
