Mosaic I Intensive Workshop

This informative 2 ½ day weekend workshop is geared towards both beginners and advanced students who want to learn or improve upon their knowledge of basic techniques, tools and materials. Students gain confidence and receive a solid foundation of new skills all in one full weekend. The workshop covers cutting techniques, proper adhesives, substrates, design/layout and grouting. Students are introduced to both traditional and contemporary techniques, a wide variety of materials and have the opportunity to complete two projects during the workshop. Students are encouraged to experiment with color and texture to begin to discover the possibilities of mosaic. Come experience the endless possibilities of this beautiful artform!

Casey Van Loon is a mosaic and glass artist who creates works of various sizes, from large windows or wall hangings to intricate mosaic jewelry. As an instructor at The Chicago Mosaic School since 2012, Casey teaches a range of courses for all levels, including the After School Matters Program. Previously working as a stained glass artist for over 20 years her work includes numerous historical and original projects including the restoration of the Tiffany Dome at the Chicago Cultural Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, NYC.

Mosaic Jewelry Workshop

Make a one-of-a-kind original piece of mosaic jewelry and learn some new skills in our fun 3-hour workshop. Students will design and complete two mosaic pendants from start to finish that expresses a personal, one-of-a-kind style. A range of studio materials, such as glass, stone, and millefiori are available for this workshop. Basic mosaic glass cutting techniques and ideal jewelry adhesives will be discussed for each of the two types of jewelry bases.
